What does CRN mean in NURSING

A Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) is a healthcare professional that specializes in clinical research. They are responsible for assessing patients, providing patient care, and conducting clinical studies with the appropriate regulatory requirements.

The primary duties of a Clinical Research Nurse include patient assessments, collection and evaluation of medical data, such as administering vaccines or retrieving laboratory specimens, monitoring laboratory values and vital signs during trials, counseling patients about their medications or interventions related to clinical research studies, managing patient databases and documentations related to trial protocols within the institution's guidelines.

To be eligible to become a CRN you must have at least an associate's degree in nursing or its equivalent from an accredited college or university. In addition to this requirement some states also require that you have experience as a registered nurse before you can obtain licensure as a nurse practitioner/nurse specialist with certification in nursing research.

There are various certifications available for CRNs such as Certification for Clinical Research Professionals (CCRP), Certified Clinical Trials Investigator (CCTI) through Society of Clinic Trial Studies and Professional Certification from Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP). To sit for these exams one should have proven experience in their respective field along with basic medical knowledge relevant to their work functions.
