What does WLEE mean in EDUCATIONAL

Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education (WLEE) is an educational approach to outdoor education that combines traditional classroom learning with practical wilderness experiences. It focuses on developing leadership, outdoor skills, individual awareness, and environmental stewardship through experiential activities within a supportive group atmosphere.

There are many different types of programs available, including Whitewater Rafting Programs, Rock Climbing Programs, Backpacking Programs, and Adventure Treks. Each program has its own unique activities designed to help learners develop essential life-skills such as communication, collaboration, decision-making, problem-solving and risk-management.

WLEE helps participants build self-confidence, discover hidden talents they have within themselves while building relationships with peers; learn how to make decisions quickly; be able to cope with difficult situations calmly; become more independent in their life decisions; find their place in society by understanding the interconnectedness between people and nature; simplify their lives by focusing on what brings them joy and peace; develop a positive mental attitude towards life’s challenges and successes.

Instructors need a minimum of First Aid/CPR certification as well as additional technical qualifications depending on the type of course or activity being offered. They should also have experience working with young people in an outdoor setting or similar environment. Above all they should be passionate about giving back to others through sharing their knowledge and helping individuals reach their potential in the outdoors.

Safety is paramount when running any course or activity in the outdoors so it is important for instructors to review all prerequisites thoroughly before departing for the field. Instructors must carry appropriate safety equipment such as first aid kits and navigation systems in order to deal with any number of potential emergencies that may arise. In addition all members of the group must abide by strict safety precautions throughout the duration of the program.

Participation age restrictions vary by program but generally range from 8 years old up to 18 years old depending on the type of course being offered. All participants must be able to demonstrate certain physical abilities dependent upon particular activity level requirements outlined by the instructor prior to departure from base camp. Certain medication restrictions may apply based upon participation requirements for each program.

Course lengths vary greatly depending on customer needs but most range from 1 - 5 days duration with longer courses offered during school holiday periods or at other times throughout the year upon request.

Depending on situation venues used will provide sleeping space either indoors or out under canvas shelters which will be provided with cookers upon request if necessary.

Yes – Participants should come equipped with appropriate clothing & footwear appropriate for conditions found during outdoor activities & camping trips; personal items such as food containers & water bottles; sleeping bag where applicable; additional items can include things like sunscreen & bug repellent.
