What does RVE mean in CARDIOLOGY

RVE is usually caused by an underlying cardiovascular issue or abnormality, such as coronary artery disease, pulmonary hypertension, or certain congenital disorders. In rare cases, it can also be caused by excessive alcohol consumption or drug use.

Symptoms of RVE may include shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, swelling in the legs and feet, palpitations or irregular heartbeat and dizziness.

Diagnosis involves a physical exam and screening tests such as an echocardiogram or cardiac MRI to locate the enlarged right ventricle and assess its size and functioning.

Treatment for RVE typically depends upon the underlying condition causing it but may include lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking or reducing alcohol consumption; medications such as diuretics; surgical procedures; or other treatments depending on individual circumstances.

Complications associated with untreated right ventricular enlargement can range from mild to severe and include heart failure, stroke, arrhythmia and sudden death. If left untreated for a prolonged period of time serious health complications can occur.
