What does NOM mean in MANAGEMENT

Non Operative Management (NOM) is a process of treating medical conditions without resorting to surgery. NOM typically involves monitoring, managing and controlling pain, symptoms and activity levels through lifestyle changes, medications and physiotherapy interventions.

NOM can be used to treat many conditions such as musculoskeletal problems, nerve entrapment syndromes, skin diseases, sports injuries, diabetes and endocrinological disorders.

Orthopedic surgeons are the most common practitioners for NOM. In some cases, physical therapists may also be involved in implementing the treatment plan.

Surgery is usually seen as a last resort when other treatments are not successful or feasible. NOM is often preferred since it carries less risk than surgical procedures and can often be completed within a shorter time frame.
