What Does AFESD Do?

The primary responsibility of AFESD is to provide the technology that allows the United States Air Force to carry out its missions effectively and efficiently. In service to this mission, AFESD develops sophisticated electronics systems that enhance the capabilities of personnel in the field or control room. Additionally, AFESD procures existing hardware solutions from external suppliers while also manufacturing its own products using cutting-edge technology and design techniques when necessary. In addition to working on new technologies within its own organizational boundaries, AFESD also provides acquisition support services as an external entity to government customers worldwide. These services include helping customers select appropriate electronic systems for their needs and negotiating contracts with vendors if purchasing them outright would be more cost-effective than designing them internally.

Maintenance Services

In addition to enabling customer’s access to hardware solutions through their procurement services, AFESD also provides maintenance services related to these systems. As part of their maintenance operations they offer repair services for many different types of electronic systems including software applications as well as embedded systems used in avionics or communication devices and networks. By doing so they aim to reduce downtime while ensuring critical components remain operational so missions can continue uninterruptedly with minimal delays due to system malfunctions or repairs required once a fault has been identified.
