CAPE's mission is two-fold: first, it seeks to bring greater visibility and representation of Asian Pacific Islanders (API) in the media. It does so by advocating for more equitable casting decisions and greater chances at major studio roles by providing professional development services such as career mentorship programs and internship placements. Secondly, CAPE works with major institutions such as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, networks, studios, agencies, and guilds to ensure that excluded communities receive support and opportunities necessary for creative expression.
History
Founded in 1991 by 12 visionary individuals who saw the need for more API visibility in media and entertainment industries, CAPE has grown into a national organization with chapters located throughout the United States. Through its efforts over the years CAPE has been instrumental in helping pave the way for numerous API talent's success stories today; from Daniel Dae Kim breaking barriers on Lost to Sandra Oh becoming one of the few Asian-American leads on television today.
