Our mission is to foster an atmosphere that encourages exploration, provides educational and professional development opportunities, and serves as a vital link between the Penn dental community and elected public health representatives. What We Do
SHDA works closely with other student-run organizations on campus to create an environment open to diverse perspectives when discussing dental topics. Additionally, SHDA tackles issues concerning healthcare equity by organizing events in the university community and Congressional meetings in Washington DC. We also facilitate mentorship programs focused around research guidance, clinical preparation courses, and first-hand experiences from established professionals from all levels of the academic setting—allowing our members unlimited access to advice pertinent for their future career trajectory. We stand firmly for advocacy of basic human rights such as inclusivity, equality of access to healthcare regardless of race, ethnicity or socioeconomic status, protection of basic civil liberties for minorities and those most vulnerable among us who cannot advocate for themselves. Through these initiatives we strive for continual renewal of our mission goal: “Opening doors that Lead from Education To Empowermentâ€.
Final Words:
At SHDA we are dedicated supporters of social change; striving not only to further the education within our organization but taking serious strides towards creating lasting improvements in society through advocating evidence-based policy changes. Our dedication lies in providing leadership development opportunities while helping people reach their academic goals so they can make meaningful contributions throughout their chosen profession. Our members cherish diversity within our own solidarity while contributing civilly beyond the walls of our institution towards a better tomorrow.
