History
Connaught Ranges had its beginnings in 1910 when the Royal Canadian Artillery School came into existence at Camp Petawawa. In 1927, part of this site was removed from Camp Petawawa which then became Connaught Ranges, named after Prince Arthur William Patrick Albert (Duke of Connaught). In 1940, the Department of National Defense (DND) took over the management of Connaught Ranges and began expanded operations there that included testing ammunition, military tactics training, as well as providing small arms training for troops headed overseas during World War II. The DND continued to manage Connaught Ranges until 1993 when it was officially established as the Connaught Ranges and Primary Training Centre (CRPTC).

The primary role of CRPTC today is to provide training opportunities for Canadian Armed Forces personnel in a variety of disciplines such as physical fitness, marksmanship, battle strategy and tactics analysis. The facility also provides public access to a 30-metre indoor firing range which consists of eight booths for target practice with up to three shooters per booth at any one time.
