What is West Valley Authors Association?
The West Valley Authors Association is a writer's group located in Surprise, Arizona. We provide a supportive network for authors of all genres to come together and connect. Our primary focus is helping authors develop their craft, art and career.
When do you meet?
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month from 6-8pm at Basha Library in Surprise, AZ.
Are there any membership fees or dues?
There is no fee to join the West Valley Authors Association; however, we do accept donations to help support our activities.
Can I submit my book for review by the WVAA?
At this time WVAA does not review books submitted by members or non-members. However we would love to hear your thoughts on your work during open critique sessions at meetings.
How can I become a presenter at a meeting?
We welcome guest presenters who are willing to share their knowledge with our members. Please contact our board if you would like to be a presenter at an upcoming meeting.
Can I receive feedback on my manuscript before submitting it for publication?
Yes! During meetings we have open critique sessions where writers can share their works with other members and get feedback from them in order to improve their writing before submitting it for publication.
Is West Valley Authors Association accepting new members?
Absolutely! We always welcome new voices into our community of writers and are happy to make room for more creative minds among us!
Is there an age requirement for joining West Valley Authors Association?
No - all ages are welcome! Our members range from adults who have just started writing to experienced authors who already have published books under their belt.
Are there any other groups related to the WVAA?
Yes — we have several affiliate groups including the Surprise Writers Guild (a teen writing group focused on fantasy/sci-fi), North Phoenix Writing Group (an adult group focused on literary fiction) and the Arizona Children's Author Alliance (which focuses on children's literature). These groups hold separate meetings but collaborate with each other occasionally as well.
Do I need to live in Surprise, Arizona in order to join West Valley Authors Association?
No — while most of our members are local residents of Surprise, AZ anyone within driving distance is encouraged and welcomed to attend meetings regardless of location!
