What does AAED mean in EDUCATIONAL

The ASEAN-Australia Education Dialogue (AAED) is a multi-country partnership between Australia and the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This forum facilitates collaboration, cooperation and exchange in different fields of education to promote economic growth, social development and cultural interaction.

The AAED seeks to foster closer links between Australia and ASEAN through enhancing both bilateral and regional educational opportunities; build collaborative research, teaching and learning partnerships; support professional development activities for educators; provide student mobility opportunities; and increase public awareness about international education initiatives.

All partners in the AAED will gain greater access to a wide range of educational experiences and knowledge that benefits students, professionals, organisations, industries and communities in the region. Participation in the Dialogue also contributes to a more integrated, prosperous region that is deeply engaged with one another.

Participants in the AAED include representatives from governments, universities, research institutions, industry organisations and non-government organisations from Australia as well as 10 ASEAN Member States - Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.

Activities conducted by participants through this platform include exchanges between higher education institutions; study tours for academic staff from partner countries to learn about best practices in various sectors related to education; joint research programs for university staff; networking events for university personnel on topics relevant to education policy; training workshops for academics on skills such as writing grant proposals or conducting project evaluations; student exchange programs; capacity building activities such as conferences on education-related issues from both sides.

The AAED meets annually at ministerial level during a series of meetings hosted by an alternating ASEAN member state each year. These meetings facilitate dialogue on topical issues identified by all partners within their own respective priorities related to education. In addition to an annual ministerial meeting there are six other meetings throughout the year where technical working groups come together informally to look at cooperation activities across themes such as higher education leadership capacity building or research collaborations.

Since its establishment in 2007 by then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd under his Asia Literacy Initiative which sought to “engage Australians more directly with our neighbours” - various productive outcomes have been achieved through this forum including launch of new regional initiatives such as establishing networked virtual laboratories connecting universities across ASEAN countries sharing lectures online via web streaming technology building strong regional relationships that have formed key foundation stones for future collaboration creating connections that not only bring people closer but bring cultures closer too creating environments that facilitate ideal opportunities for students looking towards an internationally focused career path increased understanding among educators regarding effective teaching techniques encouraged partnerships between universities & institutions which focus on areas like renewable energy sources international accreditation criteria development etc...

There are various ways in which individuals can get involved with this dialogue platform depending upon their profession - academicians can contribute their expert knowledge by participating in seminars/conferences/study tours etc… civil society representatives can lend their expertise towards policy formulation & resource utilisation towards achieving educational objectives industry experts can collaborate through joint projects/internships placements etc.... Students can take up internships & study tours offered by partner institutions & gain international exposure travelling abroad either alone or as part of an organised delegation.
