What does CVVHD mean in UROLOGY

CVVHD is a type of dialysis that uses a machine to filter waste products and poisons from the body when the kidneys stop working.

CVVHD works by delivering a steady, mild flow of dialysate through the dialyzer, which contains a semipermeable membrane. The membrane allows water, electrolytes and toxins to pass through it while filtering out proteins, red blood cells and other debris.

CVVHD may be beneficial for individuals with end stage renal disease or acute kidney injury who require intensive treatment for long periods of time. It may also be used in cases where large amounts of fluid need to be removed quickly.

The most common risk associated with this treatment is infection due to exposed intravenous lines or improper use of antiseptic solutions on skin prior to insertion of the needles. In addition, patients may experience fluctuations in their blood pressure during treatment, as well as anemia due to loss of red blood cells during filtration.

Patients usually require between 4-6 hours per day for three days per week over 2—3 weeks depending on their individual needs and any complications arising from treatment. After each treatment session, patients need to remain in bed for another hour before getting up again.
