What does PARM mean in MEDICAL

The Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (PARM) is a professional organization of medical specialists dedicated to the promotion, development, and practice of rehabilitation medicine in the Philippines. It serves to provide continuing education programs for its members, advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities, and promote best practices and standards in rehabilitation medicine.

The goals of PARM are to foster and promote high standards in terms of training, research, clinical services and other aspects related to rehabilitation medicine; as well as to act as an advocate for individuals with disabilities while engaging in activities that enable effective access to quality care services.

PARM consists of medical specialists from various disciplines including physical medicine & rehabilitation, neurology, orthopedics, physiatry or rehabilitative medicine, occupational health doctors, physical therapy & rehabilitation Specialists nurses as well as those from allied health fields such as psychology, respiratory therapy and speech-language pathology.

In addition to offering continuing education programs for its members, PARM also engages in advocacy work on behalf of people with disabilities and promotes best practices and standards in rehabilitation medicine. Moreover, it participates actively in formulating public policies at national level regarding disability issues and provides technical assistance for implementing various projects related to disability prevention or management.

Those who wish to become members must meet certain criteria set by the organization. In general, applicants must be qualified doctors working either full-time or part-time within the field of Rehabilitation Medicine anywhere within the country; thereafter they will have to submit their application form along with required documents prior consideration by the governing board.

The governing board is made up by elected officers from member professionals representing different geographical areas all over the Philippines. They create policies that guide all activities conducted by or related to PARM including membership applications and regional conferences.
