What does CCC mean in HEALTHCARE

Complex Continuing Care (CCC) is a type of long term care for individuals with chronic illnesses or disabilities who require specialized management and treatment over an extended period of time. CCC provides comprehensive medical care, as well as rehabilitation and social, psychological and spiritual assistance to help patients manage their condition.

Generally speaking, individuals must be medically stable and cannot be admitted to CCC without a physician's referral. In addition, they must have been diagnosed with a complex physical or mental illness that requires ongoing specialized attention in order to maintain their quality of life.

The services provided through CCC range from short-term acute care to long-term custodial care depending on the individual's needs. Services may include nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutrition counseling, psychosocial support, respiratory therapy, restorative therapies and medication management.

Length of stay varies depending on the patient's medical condition but typically the average length of stay ranges from three months to two years.

Depending on where you live in Canada there will be different costs associated with receiving CCC - generally costs are covered by government funded programs like OHIP+ but some clinics may also offer private payment options as well.
