What does GBF mean in ENVIRONMENTAL

The GreenBelt Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to conserve and protect Ontario’s greenbelt, the largest in the world. We research and strike deals to prevent development in ecologically sensitive areas, fund restoration projects, and work with community organizations to create long-term sustainability plans.

The GreenBelt Foundation works with local communities to ensure our natural environment remains preserved and protected. We focus on preserving farmland, protecting water resources and conserving wild places. Additionally, the organization engages in public education campaigns about conservation efforts so everyone can benefit from the greenbelt’s resources.

The GreenBelt Foundation undertakes multiple initiatives such as land acquisition programs, watershed protection projects, restoring fish habitats, and supporting regenerative farming practices. These initiatives are essential to maintaining clean air, healthy watersheds and robust wildlife populations throughout Ontario’s greenbelt.

The GreenBelt Foundation is funded entirely through private donations from individuals, businesses, foundations, NGOs and government grants. Our supporters understand how important it is that we protect our greenbelt for future generations and back us financially through donations large an small.

To determine which areas need protection, we examine existing data regarding environmental degradation rates of various ecological systems within communities across Ontario’s green belt as well as consult with local Indigenous leaders who often have insights about where certain species may be particularly vulnerable due to human activities such as mining or logging operations that may be taking place without their notice or permission. Furthermore we also conduct site visits on a regular basis to ensure that any negative changes would be noted promptly so corrective action can be taken if necessary.

Since its establishment over 10 years ago, The GreenBelt foundation has played an instrumental role in ensuring an extensive network of protected space consisting of over 2 million acres of land stretching from Niagara Peninsula all the way up north towards Georgian Bay which gives us one of the largest networks of continuous protected wildlands in North America today! This makes us proud not just because this was only made possible due to collaboration between our organization officials alongside local governments but also because it provides numerous ongoing benefits such as permanent safe refuge locations for endangered species plus protects countless watersheds vital agricultural lands critical human health resources.
