What does FOMA mean in MEDICAL

The Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) is an international professional medical society that promotes the best possible care for individuals affected by obesity.

A FOMA is a member of the OMA who has distinguished themselves in knowledge and practice of obesity medicine.

To be eligible for consideration as a Fellow of the Obesity Medicine Association (FOMA), applicants must have been an active professional OMA member in good standing for three consecutive years prior to their application submission date. Applicants must meet requirements in education, clinical experience and quality improvement activities related to obesity medicine.

As a FOMA, members receive many benefits like early access to new research and programs presented at the annual scientific session open exclusively to Fellows; recognition from peers nationally or internationally; complimentary subscription to CHEST® Physician publications such as CHEST Facts & Figures; access to review manuscripts prior to publication; recognition through selection process; additional opportunities for collaboration with mentors or mentees within OMA's mentor network; priority access to new products and services offered by CHEST Physician partners; discounts on educational products from select partners; ongoing support via an annual networking event at the annual scientific session.

To apply for membership as a Fellow of the Obesity Medicine Association (FOMA), one must submit an application form along with supporting documents such as documentation of education experience related to obesity medicine, letters of recommendation attesting clinical competence in obesity medicine and evidence-based quality improvement projects related to obesity medicine. Upon approval by the OMA Board of Directors, selected applicants will then receive an official certificate commemorating their designation as Fellows of the Obesity Medicine Association (FOMAs).
