What does UNCT mean in UNITED NATIONS

The UNCT works to ensure that each country has access the resources needed from the United Nations system, providing a comprehensive presence and its support for achieving country-specific sustainable development goals. UNCT works closely with governments, civil society, business partners and other stakeholders in order to make sure that everyone has access to information and resources necessary for achieving country-specific objectives.

The membership of a UNCT team typically includes representatives from various sectors such as social protection, health, environment, gender equality; representatives from international organizations, financial institutions and specialized agencies such as the World Bank Group and International Labour Organization; non-governmental organizations and private sector partners; civil society actors such as women's groups and human rights movements.

UNCT helps countries develop plans that address specific needs related to poverty reduction, basic service delivery, capacity building, disaster risk reduction, environmental sustainability and climate change mitigation among others. It also mobilizes resources from international partners and coordinates technical assistance provided by multiple stakeholders within the UN system.
