What does FDL mean in DEVELOPMENT

Frontier Development Lab (FDL) is a public-private partnership that harnesses the power of technology, data and space exploration to address global challenges. FDL brings together innovators, space scientists, technologists and entrepreneurs to collaborate on accelerating technological breakthroughs to solve challenges in healthcare, food security, climate change, resource scarcity and other societal concerns facing humanity today.

Anyone who has a technical background or expertise in areas such as data science or artificial intelligence (AI) and an interest in applying their skills to develop solutions for global challenges can apply for FDL programs. Applications are open to all people regardless of age, gender, geographic location or academic background.

Projects must focus on developing solutions to specific global health, food security or climate-related challenges using emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and blockchain. The proposed solutions should have a clear path from prototype development to implementation.

As part of its acceleration programs, FDL provides access to advanced technologies and experts in various fields, plus mentorship from leading professionals in industry and academia; networking opportunities; exposure through media channels; funding support; direct connections with investors; access to datasets and computer servers; workshops on research methodologies; legal advice on intellectual property rights; training materials and software tools.

Applications are accepted year-round but are reviewed quarterly at the beginning each fiscal year (October 1st - September 30th). After applications are submitted, it typically takes 2-3 weeks before applicants receive a response from the team with more information about next steps. It usually takes up to 4 months for selected teams/projects to go through the full onboarding process before they begin working with the program mentors.

Unfortunately due to capacity constraints teams cannot receive feedback directly from the selection committee during the application process. However our team is regularly reviewing submissions after each deadline so keep an eye out for updates via email if your team’s application is being considered further!

No fees are associated with joining an accelerator program offered by FDL however some administrative cost may be applicable depending on which proposal you have selected . All selected participants will be notified ahead of time what expenses they need cover.

Yes in some cases certain proposals do require approval from external government departments or regulatory bodies . Our team can provide guidance and assistance in this regard but it is ultimately up to you as applicant how best navigate these processes.
