What does FVT mean in CARDIOLOGY

Fast ventricular tachycardia (FVT) is a medical condition where the heart beats abnormally and rapidly at a rate greater than 100 beats per minute. It is a type of arrhythmia that affects millions of people each year.

People with certain underlying conditions such as coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes are more likely to develop FVT. Other risk factors include smoking, prior heart attack, advanced age, stimulant drugs and use of certain medications such as beta-blockers.

Symptoms of FVT include palpitations or an uncomfortable feeling in the chest or abdomen; dizziness; lightheadedness; fainting; shortness of breath; sweating or chest pain.

Diagnosis of FVT usually begins with a physical exam and medical history to look for any underlying conditions or risk factors that may be causing the arrhythmia. The doctor may then recommend an electrocardiogram (ECG) to measure electrical activity in your heart rhythm as well as other tests such as echocardiography or stress testing to check for any abnormal valves or structure in your heart.
