There are three main types of Zentralheizung systems: gas-fired, oil-fired, and electric systems. Gas-fired systems use natural gas as their fuel source, while oil-fired systems use either fuel oil or diesel fuel. Electric systems use electricity to generate heat energy.

The basic functioning principle of a Zentralheizung system is that it uses a single furnace or boiler to produce hot water or steam which is then circulated through pipes to radiators in each room or unit to provide heating. The warm air produced by the radiators then circulates throughout the area being heated, keeping occupants comfortable during cold winter months.

One main advantage is that it eliminates the need for separate heating equipment in each room or unit since all areas can be heated with just one centrally located heating unit. Additionally, since there is only one combustion point, it reduces emissions while saving energy costs due to improved efficiency and lower maintenance costs compared to other heating methods such as individual furnaces.

A major disadvantage is that all areas are affected when it comes time for repairs or maintenance work on the central furnace or boiler since any service will cause an interruption in heat supply until repairs are complete. Another downside is that if you have more than one type of fuel for your central heating system (such as oil and gas), you will need separate tanks for each type in order to be able to switch between them if needed.
