MicroPulse Laser Trabeculoplasty (MLT) is a laser procedure that uses energy from the laser light to open clogged eye drainage channels, which helps to lower pressure in the eyes. It's used to treat open-angle glaucoma, a type of glaucoma in which large amounts of pressure build up within the eye.

MLT works by firing small pulses of laser light into a special layer in the eye called the trabecular meshwork, allowing fluid to flow more easily out of the eye and decrease intraocular pressure. This procedure involves no injections or incisions, and can be completed in around 20 minutes.

Recovery after an MLT treatment usually takes 1-2 days and involves minimal discomfort. Most people return to their daily activities immediately after their MLT treatment; however patients should avoid any strenuous activities until they have fully recovered.

Any time you undergo any type of medical procedure there are potential risks associated with it; however, most people do not experience any significant side effects following an MLT treatment. Rarely some individuals may experience temporary visual disturbances such as double vision or difficulty focusing shortly after the procedure, but these typically subside within 1 - 2 days without any further issues.

You should wait at least one week before using contact lenses following your MLT treatment as your body needs time to adjust to newly lowered intraocular pressures and heal from the laser treatment before resuming use of contact lenses. Generally speaking, one MLT session is usually sufficient over a lifetime; however longer term management may require repeat treatments once IOP levels start rising again 3 — 5 years post initial treatment.
