What does BSBN mean in UNCLASSIFIED

The Brain Social Behavior Network (BSBN) is an international research consortium established to investigate the neural basis of social behavior. It brings together leading scientists from a variety of disciplines including cognitive neuroscience, computer science, philosophy, and psychology to study how the brain processes information when interacting with other individuals. By combining their knowledge and expertise, BSBN researchers strive to bridge the gap between basic research and real-world applications.

The main objectives of BSBN are to develop a comprehensive understanding of how neural systems interact to produce social behavior; identify brain regions involved in social cognition; develop computational models for predicting social behavior; advance machine learning techniques for evaluating human emotion and interaction; and explore the implications of neuropsychology in society.

BSBN conducts research using a variety of methods such as functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), electroencephalography (EEG), Computerized Cognitive Testing (CCT), neuropsychology, artificial intelligence, robotics, psychological assessment tests and survey questionnaires. Through these various techniques, we strive to identify patterns in brain activity that underlie social behaviors.

So far, our research has identified several key areas in which neural networks play critical roles in determining social behavior. These include factors such as the ability to differentiate between self and others, detect emotions based on facial expressions or vocal cues, exhibit sensitivity for fairness or injustice, respond appropriately to varying levels of risk or reward, negotiate conflicts without aggression and interact with virtual agents such as robots.

Additionally members have access to private seminars featuring leading experts in the field covering topics such as ethics surrounding AI development and its applications.

While all our partners contribute their valuable resources towards achieving our research goals, due to limited capacity all projects cannot be explicitly pursued at once by all partners simultaneously Therefore certain projects will have priority over others depending on available resources at any given time therefore limiting some potential collaborations.

Any individual with an interest in exploring questions about brain mechanisms underlying social cognition is welcome at our network! Depending on your experience level you may apply as a student researcher or postdoctoral fellow if more experienced or even join us as an affiliated faculty member if already established academically.
