What does HTU mean in THERAPY

An HTU works by providing 100% pure oxygen to the patient at higher than normal atmospheric pressure levels. This higher level of oxygen helps to improve tissue repair, reduce swelling and inflammation, and promote improved blood flow and circulation.

Patients with chronic or acute conditions such as non-healing wounds, infection, decompression sickness, crush injuries, thermal burns and radiation burns can benefit from using an HTU. It has also been used to successfully treat traumatic brain injury and autism due to its ability to increase oxygenation in the body and stimulate healing processes.

During your treatment session you will be placed in a pressurized chamber that contains 100% pure oxygen. You may be asked to wear special clothing for safety purposes and may even be required to have someone accompany you during the session depending on your condition or needs. Generally speaking, treatments last about two hours with breaks for comfort as needed throughout the process. Generally speaking, most patients find their session relaxing with some feeling energized after it's finished!

Occasionally mild side effects such as ear pain, itching, fatigue or dizziness can be experienced but these usually subside quickly once the treatment is completed. Rarely more serious side effects such as pain around the eyes or facial flushing may occur but these are also easily managed if they do occur. Your doctor will provide you with detailed information prior to beginning treatments so you know what symptoms are normal and which warrant seeking medical attention right away if they develop during or shortly after your session finishes.
