What does RTC mean in THERAPY

RTC stands for Recreation Therapist Certified, which is a credential issued by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).

To become an RTC you must have achieved a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in therapeutic recreation or related field; completed approved coursework in specific areas; passed the NCTRC examination with a minimum score of 500; and have acquired one year of experience under supervision after completion of degree requirements.

By becoming an RTC, individuals demonstrate to employers and clients that they have met required competencies mandated at the national level to practice therapeutic recreation.They are also eligible to work in any state as they meet all requirements regardless of geographic location.

Recreational Therapy specialists provide services such as activities planning, group therapies, community outings, leisure education classes, physical fitness programs and assessments. They also provide direct treatment initiatives such as sport-based therapy to address mental health issues like stress management and improving self-regulation skills.

It typically takes three years to pass all the requirements necessary for qualifying as a Recreation Therapist Certified (RTC). This includes completing coursework, taking part in supervised clinical practice activities, passing exams and having relevant experience under supervision.
