What does BSCEC mean in UNCLASSIFIED

BSCEC stands for Best Start Compton East Compton, a collective effort by local government, community partners and business leaders aimed at improving the quality of life of children and families residing in the East Compton area.

Members of BSCEC include representatives from various city departments such as Health Services, Parks & Recreation; community organizations like Centinela Youth Services; faith-based institutions; local businesses; and more than 40 school sites from seven school districts — which comprise more than 50 elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, early education centers/head start programs. All members work together toward a common goal—to create lasting improvement for East Compton.

Through its various services such as educational enrichment opportunities for youth; health services to address mental health issues, health screenings and education on topics such as nutrition; family strengthening services that promote healthy relationships among family members; academic support programs; employment readiness classes; access to housing resources; cultural events/activities that unify different ethnic groups; mentoring opportunities; leadership development workshops; street outreach programs targeting gang prevention activities—the list goes on!—BSCEC continues to strengthen communities within East Compton where all people are empowered with access to economic stability and quality lifestyle choices for themselves and their families.

Some specific results demonstrated by BSCEC include significantly increasing school attendance rates across participating sites with 100% or near 100% attendance at 35 sites. Additionally, overall grade point average (GPA) improved by 2 points among participants committing to academic interventions while suspension rates decreased at 60% or greater at 37 sites year over year with 80 students graduating high school after attending 6th Grade Academy intervention classes hosted by Best Start Compton. There have also been countless reports from grateful parents who have expressed their appreciation for program staff's ability to help them build stronger relationships with their children through creative programming events like Parent Cafes & Parent University workshops.
