What does DWRS mean in DISABILITY

DWRS utilizes an evidence-based approach that includes provider data, cost estimates, consumer surveys, and other relevant information as part of its rate setting methodology. This process allows states to develop standardized pricing structures that will meet their Medicaid standards while also ensuring adequate reimbursement for healthcare providers.

The main benefit of DWRS is that it helps promote quality of care and access to services for individuals with disabilities by allowing providers to be adequately reimbursed for their services. Additionally, this system can help save states money over time by incentivizing efficient cost savings through evidenced based approaches such as utilizing existing networks where possible.

Each state has the ability to develop its own rate setting structure using the guidelines provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Once established, each state must submit a quarterly report on its rates and how they comply with CMS regulations.

If a state fails to comply with CMS requirements, they may be subject to financial penalties or corrective actions such as additional reporting requirements or changes in methodology.

Currently only 18 states have adopted some form of DWRS in order to set appropriate reimbursement rates for healthcare providers offering services for individuals with disabilities. However, other states may opt into the program at any time as more information on how successful it can be becomes available.
