What does BPSI mean in INSTITUTES

The Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (BPSI) is a professional organization dedicated to the training, research, and practice of psychoanalysis in all of its forms. BPSI is an accredited member of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA). We are committed to providing our members with outstanding psychoanalytic education and resources.

The BPSI offers a variety of educational programs ranging from didactic courses, seminars, lectures, conferences, symposia and other events related to psychoanalysis. In addition we offer accredited psychoanalytic training programs including both adult analytic and child and adolescent analysis.

Yes. The BPSI sponsors ongoing clinical studies at its Center for Research on Psychoanalysis in Clinical Practice (CRPCP). CRPCP provides opportunities for practitioners in all aspects of psychodynamic treatment as well as preventive services to combine their clinical experiences with rigorous scientific evaluation.

Yes! Volunteers play a crucial role in helping the institute succeed in its mission. Volunteers can serve in many different capacities including but not limited to teaching classes or mentoring students, reviewing grant applications or manuscripts, promoting public education campaigns or special events by using their own networks and interests.

Yes! We have an extensive collection dedicated specifically to psychoanalytic literature that is accessible to members for research purposes. It contains books from authors such as Freud through those currently writing today. Members can also access online materials such as journal articles, lectures, audio recordings most recently published works in psychoanalysis.

Yes! Throughout the year we hold multiple conferences focused on important topics such as upcoming trends in psychoanalytic theory or current challenges facing clinicians who work with children and adolescents dealing with various issues related to development such as anxiety or depression.

Membership requirements vary based on profession but all applicants must meet criteria such as possessing an advanced degree and completing training under supervision at either another IPA approved institute or equivalent organization recognized by BSPI board members before applying for membership.

Yes. Participants may be eligible to receive continuing education credits for attending certain events at BSPI that meet certain criteria set forth by accrediting organizations such as APsaA (American Psychological Association).
