History

YMAS was founded in 1987 by a group of model aircraft enthusiasts in York Region who wanted to create a dedicated organization for recreational and competitive model aircraft pilots. The club has grown significantly since then, with members from all over the York region and beyond. In addition to offering traditional flying events such as fun-flys (where members fly their models recreationally) and competitions (where models are judged on various criteria), YMAS also operates several flying sites around the region, some of which are available only to club members.

Events & Services

In addition to hosting its own regular events and competitions at its various flying sites, YMAS also works closely with other organizations in an effort to promote model aviation in general. The club regularly offers seminars on topics such as building techniques, safety procedures, navigation strategies, airshow performance tips, and much more. YMAS also educates non-members on proper flying etiquette and encourages public participation in their events whenever possible. For more serious competitors, YMAS organizes regional tournaments where pilots from all over Ontario come together for friendly competition.
