History
Bihar Agricultural University has its origins in the College of Agriculture established by Dr. Rajender Prasad (the first President of India) at the Patna University Campus in 1945. In order to extend agricultural research activities throughout the State of Bihar, a new institute was set up under a special act passed by the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1957. Initially known as ‘Institute of Agricultural Research’ or ‘IAR’ between 1958–1982; it was subsequently renamed as Rajendra Agricultural University (RAU) during 1982-2010. Subsequently; after coming into effect from August 10th 2010; RAU was finally rechristened as Bihar Agricultural University or commonly referred as just BAU for short.
