What does ADBC mean in SHIPPING & SAILING

The Annapolis Dragon Boat Club (ADBC) is a recreational club that promotes the sport of dragon boating in the Chesapeake Bay area. We offer members the opportunity to learn and practice the sport of dragon boat racing in a fun, team-based environment.

Everyone enthusiastic about participating in dragon boating activities is welcome to join ADBC. No experience is required, we provide professional instruction for all ages and skill levels.

We currently have weekly practices on Saturdays from 9am - 11am throughout most of the year. During major competitions, we may run additional training sessions at other times during the week.

While we accept members of any age, all paddlers must be 16 years old or older before they can participate in competitions. You can become a member at any age but you will only be allowed to compete if you are 16 or older.

It is highly recommended that all paddlers participating in our activities know how to swim and have the ability to stay afloat for at least 5 minutes while wearing life jackets. All participants must wear personal flotation devices while on board dragon boats.

As dragon boat racing is an active water sport, some degree of physical fitness is necessary and highly encouraged as it may improve athletic performance during competitions and practices alike. However, no prior experience with paddling or stamina-based sports is required as our coaches will provide proper instruction for training purposes.
