What does YSU mean in YOUTH

The purpose of YSU is to provide leadership opportunities for students in grades 5-12 and to encourage young people to become proactive in their community and to take ownership of the decisions that have an impact on all citizens.

Any student currently enrolled in grades 5-12 is eligible to participate in the Youth Service Unit program.

There are a variety of different volunteer opportunities available through YSU, ranging from helping out at local food banks or shelters, tutoring children, cleaning up public parks and other public spaces, participating in civic projects designed to help improve the environment, conducting research projects for local non-profits, organizing fundraisers for charities or causes that students care about, and more.

To get involved with YSU, contact your school district or local government office or go online to search for youth service programs near you. Depending on where you live, there may be specific requirements or steps you need to take before joining a particular program.

Participants who join YSU gain valuable skills such as communication, problem solving and time management while also having a positive impact on their communities by giving back. Additionally, some universities recognize participation in youth service programs when evaluating applications for scholarships or admission into college.
