What does YOIT mean in YOUTH

YOIT is an innovative program for high-risk youth, helping them transition from crisis to stability in their lives. The program combines intensive case management and transition planning with a range of supportive services such as employment and educational support, substance use counseling, mental health services, housing navigations services, and other stabilization resources.

Eligibility for the YOIT Program is determined on an individual basis. Generally speaking, potential participants must be between the ages of 16-24; have limited access to resources and support; have experienced or are at risk of homelessness; may have been involved in illegal activities; and/or currently involved with criminal justice systems.

The length of time invested in the program varies depending on an individual’s needs and progress. While some participants may need longer than others to complete the program, most people will remain in YOIT for up to two years as they work towards transitioning out successfully.

The YOIT Program offers a wide range of services that include but are not limited to mentoring, life skills training, counseling, job search assistance, financial literacy classes and guidance around developing a personal plan. Other supplemental supports could include legal assistance or benefits advocacy if needed by those enrolled in the program.

Some common expected outcomes from participating in this program include increased overall well-being including improved physical and mental health; improved academic or employment standing; increased social relationships with family members or peers; reduced involvement with criminal activities or behaviors; increased self-awareness / understanding; increased self-confidence / self-efficacy; decreased substance use and/or abuse.

Yes! After completion of the program, participants will receive post-transitional care services which provide additional forms of support such as housing assistance referrals, reintegration into school or employment settings, ongoing life skills coaching and connection with other community resources that can offer additional help if necessary.

There are no upfront costs associated with participating in this program as all necessary supports are provided free of charge by our team at MyCity Networking Incorporated (MCN). However occasional transportation costs – gas money for instance – may occur so we kindly ask that potential participants come prepared for any out-of pocket expenses.
