What Does it Stand For?

WRYS stands for Waterford Regional Youth Service. It is an Irish organization that was created in 1992 with the mission to provide support and opportunities for young people between 11 and 25 years old living in the Waterford region of Ireland. The organization works on three main areas: personal development, participation & training, and information & advocacy. WRYS offers young people advice and guidance on different topics such as relationships, education or health issues; community actions and initiatives; educational activities; access to further education or training opportunities; recreational activities; and advocacy services.

Aims and Objectives:The main objectives of WRYS are centred around the empowerment of young people through access to social justice, rights education, economic inclusion, voting rights etc., as well as improving their emotional wellbeing through recreational activities, peer mentoring schemes etc. By providing a safe environment for self-expression, WRYS seeks to create a sense of belonging within communities which can encourage more effective citizenship among its members. Working towards eliminating all forms of disadvantage amongst participants is another important goal that has been set out by the charity organisation in order for youth organisations working across the country can carry out its role effectively.

How Does it Work?:WRYS operates through its network of experienced volunteers who work within local communities to deliver professional services focusing on those life issues that affect young people such as housing or employment difficulties. This involves direct contact with individuals organising one-to-one meetings or group sessions discussing specific topics like mental health awareness or bullying prevention programmes etc., providing appropriate literature suitable for participants’ needs as well as help with building skills necessary when dealing with different situations appropriately not only in Ireland but also abroad if needed/requested so . To achieve these objectives WRYS also runs several campaigns across the region during special occasions like Christmas time aimed at raising awareness about certain phenomena affecting our society today such as gender inequality or discrimination based on race or sexual orientation etc., encouraging individual responsibility when dealing with real life challenges we all encounter while growing up.
