What does STMS mean in SOCIETIES

The St Thomas More Society is a professional organization that promotes the Catholic legal tradition within and outside of the United States. The Society works to educate its members about legal, moral and ethical issues facing society from a Catholic perspective, as well as to foster fellowship among those who serve the law in the spirit of St. Thomas More.

Membership in the St Thomas More Society is open to any person who has expressed an interest in and commitment to fostering the ideals of service to God through service to the law as exemplified by St. Thomas More, either professionally or personally. Eligible membership categories include attorneys and judges, students, faculty or administration at an accredited law school, and other individuals who support the mission of STMS.

The STMS seeks to provide networking opportunities for its members through local chapters across the United States, offering programs on current topics within legal ethics, religious freedom, civic engagement and more. In addition, it hosts various events during its national conference each year that offers additional educational and leadership training for those working in or studying law from a Catholic perspective.

The STMS has numerous partnerships with other organizations such as states’ bar associations; Supreme Court justices; nonprofit organizations; colleges; universities; dioceses; parishes; seminaries; chanceries; centers for public policy research Firms sponsoring professional & social activities related to our mission
