What does PTI mean in RACING

The Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI) is an industry-wide effort to improve traceability in the produce supply chain. It ensures that fresh produce can be accurately tracked from farm to retail level.

PTI was created by a group of produce companies, including leaders from the grocery and foodservice industries, with a goal to create a standardized system for tracking fresh produce from the farm to the store level.

PTI helps improve traceability and reduce risks associated with product recalls, contamination and other food safety issues, as well as allow companies to quickly identify any problems and track them back to source. Additionally, it allows retailers and consumers access to traceable information on products they purchase.

Each company involved in the Produce Traceability Initiative must take responsibility for implementing their own set of procedures that meet the requirements specified by PTI. The initiative also recommends that participating companies review best practices for labeling and coding compliance throughout their operations.

The initiative works by establishing standardized item-level identification codes on all cases containing fresh fruits and vegetables at each stage in the supply chain. This enables participating companies to more easily locate contaminated goods or alert retailers if there is a problem with their products so that they can take corrective measures if needed.
