On February 15th 1898, over 3,000 delegates gathered at Friendship Church near Louisville KY and officially adopted a constitution which formalized The NNMBC into existence as an independent denomination with various offices such as Department of Missions and Sunday Schools located at Lynchburg VA; Home & Foreign Mission Board at Richmond VA; Chorus Choir Union headquartered in Atlanta GA; Ministers' Mutual Aid Association based out of Nashville TN; Educational Bureau located at Dallas TX; Laymen's Alliance meeting in Chicago IL; Colored Youth Industrial Bureau located in St Louis MO; Publishing House at Nashville TN – all overseen by its President General James H Lawson Jr., who succeeded Lott Cary after his death in 1903.
That same year Lawson also assumed role as President General for another prominent organization referred to as The Consolidated American Union Association (CAUA), which included some smaller unions associated with The NNMBC congregation such as Widows & Orphans Aid Society, Blind Deaf & Dumb Conference and Second Sunday School Congress – all designed towards improving life conditions among African Americans during that era through economic development initiatives within their respective congregations nationally throughout US cities/states. Throughout 1900s both organizations augmented their reach expanding geographic footprint beyond Southern states up North where they served large urban centers including parts of NYC ~ Philadelphia ~ Chicago reaching far beyond original territories covering almost entire US east coast region at that time before coming together officially in 1944 when CAUA merged back into umbrella organization known today simply as “THE NEW NATIONAL BAPTIST CHURCH” at height approximately 18 years later following final WWII victory 1945 under leadership emeritus JD Patterson Sr..
