The National Book Development Board (NBDB) is an executive department of the Philippine government mandated to develop and promote a dynamic book publishing industry in the country. It was established by virtue of Republic Act 8047 or The Book Publishing Industry Development Act also known as "An Act Creating A Book Publishing Industry Development Board And For Other Purposes" signed into law on May 51998.

The NBDB is responsible for formulating policies for a vibrant book publishing industry as well as developing programs and projects that aim to improve the quality of publications in the Philippines by providing technical assistance and training opportunities for authors, editors, publishers, marketers and distributors involved in creating books. The board also works with other agencies such as DepEd, CHED, NCCA, DOST among others in advocating literary reading promotion initiatives such as launching literary organizations nationwide such as Writers Clubs; supporting local publishing houses through grants; initiating workshops; spearheading literacy campaigns; organizing book fairs; conducting market studies; promoting exports of Filipino books abroad; managing funds from foreign investments involved in research and development.
