History
Leeds was formed in 1919 as Leeds City Football Club after combining two previously existing clubs from the region — Leeds Parramore and Holbeck Rugby Club. Having joined The Football League in 1920 they quickly rose up through the divisions before finally gaining promotion to England's top division — now known as The Premier League — after making a spectacular run during the 1965/66 season. Led by legendary coach Don Revie, Leeds went on to compete regularly at Europe's highest level and notched up three League titles as well as winning domestic Cups during this period.
Recent Years
Since their glory days of being perennial top-flight contenders during the 60s and 70s, Leeds has had a turbulent journey back to elite status that eventually culminated in promotion back to The Premier League for the 2020/21 season — 16 long years since their relegation from it in 2004. Despite this recent success, however, life off-the-pitch remains tough with financial struggles continuing to plague ownership issues amongst other things. Nonetheless, for its longstanding supporters whose passion for following LUFC never wavered during these testing occasions, a new dawn breaks over Elland Road Stadium as their team once again look set for competing at England's highest level this coming season!
