What does LMSU mean in UNIONS

Leeds Met Students’ Union (LMSU) is the union for all students at Leeds Beckett University and is wholly independent from the University. We provide our members with support, representation, social activities and a wide range of commercial services. LMSU is a membership organisation governed by an elected executive committee who are responsible for the running of the Students’ Union.

All students studying at Leeds Beckett University automatically become members of LMSU when enrolment with the university takes place. Your membership gives you access to a range of services including welfare advice, student discounts and representation.

As a member of LMSU you have access to exclusive offers, events, clubs and societies as well as support from our friendly team. You can also apply for positions on committees such as President or Finance Officer, or even run for Student Council elections in your department. There are also travel discounts available through NUS extra card which gives you access to exclusive student-only discounts online and across hundreds of high street shops and restaurants across the UK.

Firstly it's important to know that there is always someone available at Leeds Met Students' Union (LMSU) who will listen, understand and offer professional, non-judgemental advice - whether it's regarding academic matters or personal issues such as financial problems or mental health difficulties. Our Welfare Officers are here to help - simply contact them via e-mail or in person when visiting one of our branches in City Campus or Headingley Campus buildings during office hours (Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm). Alternatively outside these hours you can call the 24 hour student helpline on 0808 169 8879 which is an external service funded by Universities UK (formerly known as Million+).

Every year elections are held where you can vote for your favourite candidates for positions on the Executive Committee such as President, Vice Presidents and Student Council Chairs etc.. To be able to vote/nominate yourself for these positions make sure that you sign up prior to elections taking place using your MyBeckett login details; this process opens normally around October/November time each year. You will then be able to cast your votes via MyBeckett towards end November/early December after seeing what each candidate stands for - Election results are usually declared around mid-December so keep an eye out!

Finally just don't forget that all currently enrolled Leeds Beckett University students receive free entry into several events hosted by Leeds Met Students' Union throughout Semester One & Two!

Yes absolutely – we have a wide range of sports equipment available at discounted prices through our retail outlets located in both City Campus & Headingley Campus sites; types include fitness accessories like weights / cardio machines right up camping equipment & scuba diving gear!
