What We Do

At the heart of the organization is promoting an increased understanding of how our food system works through providing resources to both the public and policy makers. Over the years LFAC has identified key issues in our current agricultural system with regards to food safety and health risks posed by industrialized farming practices. Through consumer education campaigns such as Buy Fresh Buy Local programs across all fifty states we are dedicated to connecting individuals directly with their local farmers so they can make informed decisions about what they consume. Additionally, we strive for an equitable food system where all people have access to fresh healthy options at an affordable price point regardless of their socio-economic standing.

Creating A Sustainable Future

In order to ensure an environmentally sustainable model for present and future generations LFAC focuses on working with local farmers and producers in addressing threats posed by climate change as well as preserving open land for growing use. Our policy initiatives strive to create incentives for small scale farming operations while also ensuring transportation networks that support these small scale growers can continue exist without negative externalities being placed upon them. Some of our major policies include advocating for tax incentives for small scale gardening operations in urban areas as well as diversifying commodity crop production based off climate conditions in certain areas versus traditional monoculture models which rely heavily on high levels of inputs such as water energy or chemicals that can be hard on surrounding ecosystems or groundwater tables when overused.
