What does AM mean in UNCLASSIFIED

Malik was a Muslim scholar, born in Medina in 711 AD, who is often recognized as the founder of the Maliki school of legal thought in Sunni Islam. He was hugely influential in developing Islamic jurisprudence during his lifetime, and his works are still studied today.

From this period in history, we can learn about how Islamic jurisprudence developed and evolved over time. It was a period of great innovation and development which shaped much of what came afterwards for both Sunni and Shia traditions of Islam. We can also learn about the society and culture which existed during this time period.

Key documents include various works by Malik himself, such as Al-Muwatta' (The Matured) and Al-Mudawwanah al-Kubra (The Book on Jurisprudence). There are also writings by later scholars such as Ibn Rushd (Averroes) which cover this period's developments in theology and jurisprudence.

Although he passed away centuries ago, Malik's influence still resonates strongly today. His teachings have informed modern versions of Sharia law, particularly those practiced by followers of Maliki madhhabs throughout various parts of the Islamic world.
