What does ALAB mean in UNCLASSIFIED

ALAB’s decisions are based on the evidence and material presented during hearings, as well as its own research gathered from reports and other sources. It takes into consideration all relevant factors, including any potential environmental impacts, while making decisions about licences.

ALAB does not have a role in creating new regulations or laws related to aquaculture licensing, but it may review existing regulations to make sure that they are being followed properly when deciding on matters of appeal related to aquaculture licences.

ALAB hears a variety of cases related to appeals regarding aquaculture licenses, such as appeals against current license holders or applicants seeking an aquaculture licence that has been denied by the Minister of Fisheries & Oceans Canada.

You can submit your appeal directly to the Governor in Council through their administrative appeal form found on their website. This form must include information about the matter you wish to appeal and any supporting documentation that might help with the decision-making process.

If appealing a decision regarding your aquaculture licence, you should submit your appeal within 15 days of receiving notice from Fisheries & Oceans Canada or the designated delegated authority in writing informing you about their decision. This time limit applies regardless of whether or not you received written notice from them prior to your application being made.

You are allowed to represent yourself at an ALAB hearing or use legal representation if desired. It is also possible for someone else to act as your representative at an ALAB hearing – this person must be legally qualified and be able to provide evidence supporting your claims during the hearing process.
