CIBA was founded in 1986 by Dr. David Patterson at Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut. It was one of the first IB academies in North America and the first public school offering an IB program. Since then, more than 1 million students have been enrolled in CIBA programs worldwide and the school has grown into an internationally recognized educational institution with over 20 nationalities represented among its student population.

Goals of CIBA

The primary goal of CIBA is to prepare students for success in a global economy by providing a rigorous academic program that allows them to gain knowledge from multiple perspectives and develop strong problem-solving skills. In addition to providing a comprehensive academic experience that integrates interdisciplinary study with cultural understanding, CIBA also encourages students to learn about global citizenship through civic engagement activities as well as access experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom.

Curriculum

CIBA offers two main tracks for students: an IB Diploma Programme (DP) and an IB Career-Related Programme (CP). The DP track consists of six Units across six different subject areas which include language & literature; individuals & society; sciences; mathematics; arts & design; physical & health education; and additional courses related to special interests or career paths chosen by each student depending on their individual needs and interests. The CP track offers four interdisciplinary courses based on specific career paths such as healthcare science or business management as well as specialized courses relating to chosen careers such as finance or marketing principles for business management students. Each programme also requires completion of service requirements where students develop skills related to global citizenship by being actively engaged in community service activities throughout their high school years.
