What does CFE mean in UNCLASSIFIED

BACKGROUND

CFE was founded in 1943 after the Mexican government decided to nationalize all electric service providers across the country and combine them into one entity controlled by the federal government. This decision allowed CFE to become Mexico’s main energy supplier, with its responsibilities extending to generation, transmission, distribution and retail of electrical services throughout Mexico. In addition to managing energy supply within Mexico, CFE has also been an important partner in international developmental projects related to energy production and infrastructure.

SCOPE OF OPERATIONS

The scope of operations for CFE includes generation, distribution, transmission and commercialization of electrical power at different voltage levels both domestically and internationally. It operates almost 15 thousand kilometers of transmission lines along with more than 259 thousand kilometers of distribution lines spread nationwide. In terms of generation capacity, CFE has close to 70 thermal plants spread across 16 states in Mexico as well as smaller hydropower plants accounting for over 20 thousand GWh produced annually through its comprehensive network of several hundred plants operated by independent power producers (IPPs).

CFE offers a wide range of services related to electricity such as residential customer support including billing payment plans; industrial customer support including cost efficient energy solutions; energization plans for small businesses including expansion programs; rural electrification programs; renewable energy integration plans; technological development programs; training courses involving safety training or new technologies; environmental conservation initiatives such as clean air/water initiatives and programs aimed at mitigating climate change impacts among others.

IMPORTANCE OF CFE

As previously mentioned, CFE has been an important provider of electricity and related services domestically within Mexico but it has also been involved with several internationally funded projects aimed at improving the quality of life in neighboring countries particularly those in Central America and South America due to its vast experience on generating electricity from different sources like thermal plants or hydropower among others while following the highest standards both technically and environmentally speaking all over the world. Through its investment efforts abroad as well as its state-of-the-art operations inside the country, CFE plays an important role not only inside Mexico but also internationally by providing reliable electric service from clean sources without compromising either economic efficiency or sustainability initiatives.
