History
The NKAC conference was established in 1929 when three small public schools, Lloyd Memorial High School, Newport High School, and Bellevue High School formed what was then called the Three-C League or Campbell County Conference. This league expanded to eight teams by 1947 when records indicate that it changed its name to the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference. Over the years, the membership has grown steadily with new schools from Boone County joining in 1964; Gallatin County joining in 1975; Harrison County joining in 1988; and Pendleton County joining in 2001. Today, all fourteen NKAC member schools are actively competing at both high school varsity and sub-varsity levels.
Purposes
The goals of the NKAC are to promote good sportsmanship among its member schools through healthy competition; provide member students opportunities for achieving their highest potential as athletes; ensure that athletic obligations do not interfere with academic pursuits; provide a strong emphasis on safety; and promote college preparation teams. Additionally, through regularly scheduled competitions between NKAC schools, players from different communities can gain an understanding and appreciation for their opponents' strengths and abilities while building relationships which last beyond their high school years.
