What does CIPC mean in PREVENTION

The mission of the CIPC is to prevent injuries and violence, and reduce their consequences. We strive to achieve this through research, policy development, public education and advocacy.

An injury is defined as any physical damage to the body caused by external force or agent. This can include everything from cuts, bruises and fractures to motor vehicle accidents, falls, poisonings, burns and even drowning.

We use a variety of data sources in our research including epidemiologic studies, mortality reports, hospital discharge data, incident reports from police authorities and emergency medical services (EMS), surveys from individuals about their experiences with injuries as well as laboratory test results.

Yes! We have a number of initiatives aimed at reducing fatalities and disabilities in children due to unintentional injuries such as drowning prevention or bicycle helmet safety campaigns.
