Eligibility Requirements

In order to qualify as a Fellow of Geoscientists Canada (FGC), an applicant must meet several requirements. These include being able to demonstrate a consistent record of top-level achievement in their profession or field, having made significant contributions to the advancement of Canadian geoscience through research or engineering activities, and having published works that are recognized in their field. Candidates must also possess excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work with multidisciplinary teams effectively, as well as demonstrate commitment to the highest standards of professional ethical behaviour. Assessment Criteria: Applicants for FGC are assessed according to seven key criteria, including a comprehensive evaluation process that incorporates both peer review and review by panels comprised entirely of members from Geoscientists Canada’s Board of Directors. This includes verification of credentials by way of previous awards received or published materials produced related to geoscience; assessment of the candidate’s involvement in various areas such as research and development, government or educational institutions; evaluation of significant contributions on behalf of the community related to their profession, i.e., teaching or consulting; recognition for accomplishments outside their current roles; availability for conferences/publications/speaking engagements; professional practice experience in geosciences; and evidence that attests to strong levels knowledge and expertise regarding Canadian geological resources.
